Assegno Unico Universale 2026: how it works
The Assegno Unico e Universale is the monthly allowance paid by INPS for every dependent child, from the seventh month of pregnancy until age 21 (with no age limit for children with a disability). It replaced the previous tax deductions for dependent children and the family-unit allowances (ANF).
The amount per minor child ranges from a maximum at the lowest ISEE values to a minimum granted even to those who don't file an ISEE. On top come the supplements: for children after the second, for large families (3+ and 4+ children), for disability, for a mother under 21, for single-parent households, and when both parents earn an income.
How the Assegno Unico is calculated
The base amount scales smoothly between the minimum and maximum values according to the household's ISEE; the applicable supplements are added to the base. The calculator above uses the official 2026 parameters to estimate the monthly and yearly amount from the details you enter.
How the Assegno Unico has changed over the years
The Assegno Unico came into force in March 2022, merging into a single measure the previous IRPEF deductions for dependent children, the family-unit allowances (ANF), the birth grant, and the bonus bebè.
Amounts and ISEE thresholds are revalued every year in line with inflation (ISTAT index): the adjustment was +8.1% in 2023 and +5.4% in 2024, with further revaluations in the following years. Since 2024, government bonds up to €50,000 are excluded from the ISEE calculation, benefiting many families, and the supplements for large families and for children with a disability have been strengthened. The values applied here are those in force for 2026.
Frequently asked questions
- How much is the Assegno Unico in 2026?
- The amount depends on your ISEE: for each minor child it ranges from a maximum at the lowest ISEE values to a minimum (granted even without an ISEE), plus the supplements for children after the second, disability, a mother under 21, and single-parent households.
- Do you need an ISEE to get the Assegno Unico?
- No: without an ISEE you still receive the minimum amount. By filing an ISEE the amount increases as the value decreases, up to the maximum for the lowest bands.
- Up to what age is the Assegno Unico paid?
- It is paid from the seventh month of pregnancy until the child turns 18, and from 18 to 21 if they study, are in a traineeship, or have a low income. With no age limit for children with a disability.
