I raise laying hens and sell eggs — is 01.47.00 the right code?
Yes, 01.47.00 is exactly right. Egg production and the raising of chickens, turkeys, ducks, geese, quails, and ostriches all fall here, including hatcheries. If you raise pet birds such as parrots, the code changes to 01.48.99.
I only run a hatchery that hatches chicks for other farmers — does that fall here?
Yes, 01.47.00 includes the operation of hatcheries and the automated hatching of eggs for poultry farming. Hatching is part of poultry farming even when you sell the chicks to other farms — it is not a separate service.
I raise ostriches and quails, not the usual chickens — do I still fall under 01.47.00?
Yes. Ostriches, quails, guinea fowl, ducks, and geese are all poultry and all belong in 01.47.00. Watch out for other birds: ornamental or pet birds such as parrots are excluded from poultry and go under 01.48.99.
