Frequently asked questions

My commercial bank or cooperative credit bank should use 64.11.00 because it mentions banks?
No. 64.11.00 is reserved for central banks, the issuance of banknotes, and monetary policy — in Italy that means the Banca d'Italia and the central banking system. An ordinary bank, a savings bank, or a BCC falls under 64.19.10.
Does the body that supervises banks fall under 64.11.00 or is there a separate code?
Usually 64.11.00, because the supervision of monetary operations — both banking and non-banking — is among the central bank functions listed in the code. However, supervision of financial services when not carried out by the central bank has a different code: 66.11.00. The deciding factor is who exercises the supervision.
State Treasury operations and holding official reserves: does that fall under 64.11.00?
Yes. Acting as banker to the Government, holding the country's international reserves, and managing the money supply are activities explicitly listed under 64.11.00. They remain central bank functions, distinct from the ordinary monetary intermediation of 64.19.10.
