Exclusion notes
Excluded from group 24.5:
- manufacture of products obtained by production processes other than from castings (e.g. as forged, pressed, drawn and stamped parts, rolled rings or powder metallurgy products), see division 25
- manufacture of finished products by further processing of castings, e.g.:
- boilers and radiators, see 25.21
- cast household items, anchors, ships' propellers and bells, see 25.99

- casting of metals not considered light metals, see 24.51, 24.52, 24.54
Frequently asked questions
I cast titanium parts: is the code 24.53.09 or one of the aluminium or magnesium casting codes?
My light alloy is not aluminium, magnesium, or cobalt — where does it go?
Under 24.53.09, the category for castings in other light metal alloys not classified elsewhere, such as titanium. Cobalt-base superalloys, however, remain under 24.53.03. The base of the alloy being cast always determines the code.
I cast titanium for dental implants and biomedical parts: does the code stay at 24.53.09 or change for the medical application?
It stays at 24.53.09: the residual light metals category explicitly mentions titanium, and the code is determined by the metal being cast, not by the biomedical end use. If you cast cobalt-base superalloys — also common in prosthetics — the correct code is 24.53.03.
