Exclusion notes

Excluded from group 24.5:

  • manufacture of products obtained by production processes other than from castings (e.g. as forged, pressed, drawn and stamped parts, rolled rings or powder metallurgy products), see division 25
  • manufacture of finished products by further processing of castings, e.g.:
  • boilers and radiators, see 25.21

Frequently asked questions

Die-casting of zinc alloy (zamak) components: 24.54.02 or zinc production 24.43.00?
24.54.02: zamak is a zinc alloy and the code covers the casting of zinc-alloy parts. The production of primary zinc and its semi-finished products falls instead under 24.43.00.
We die-cast small hardware parts: does the metal determine whether to use 24.54.01 or 24.54.02?
Yes — the alloy metal decides. Zinc and zamak go under 24.54.02; copper alloys such as bronze and brass go under 24.54.01. For other non-ferrous metals without their own code there is 24.54.09.
I die-cast zamak and then chrome- and nickel-plate the parts in the same workshop: is it all 24.54.02?
The zamak casting stays under 24.54.02. Electroplating treatments such as chromium and nickel plating are a distinct activity from foundry work and follow their own code. If you also cast copper alloys such as bronze and brass in the same facility, that activity goes under 24.54.01.
