I produce frozen vegetarian ready meals that contain neither meat nor fish — should I use 10.85.09 or a more specific code?
Usually 10.85.09. It is the residual code for prepared meals and dishes that do not fall under a dedicated heading: if the dish is meat-based, use 10.85.01; if it is frozen or preserved pizza, use 10.85.04. Mixed or vegetable ready meals that do not fit any of those headings fall here.
I run a takeaway deli and also prepare packaged ready meals to resell to other shops — is this still ATECO 10.85.09?
Only if the core of the activity is producing packaged meals for distribution, not counter service. Code 10.85.09 classifies the industrial manufacture of ready meals intended for trade. If you prepare food and serve it to customers on the premises, the logic shifts to food service — a different branch of the classification.
I produce trays of vegetable soups and vegetable side dishes ready to heat — should I use 10.85.09 or the code for vegetable-based dishes?
Usually the dedicated code. A ready meal centred on vegetables has its own heading at 10.85.03, while a fish-based one sits at 10.85.02. Code 10.85.09 remains for mixed meals that have no single predominant ingredient with its own heading.
